So, all sorts of accusations coming out of Iran regarding voter fraud. Seriously, I CAN'T BELIEVE that people would THINK that Ahmadinejhad would stoop to such low levels to retain power!!! I mean this guy is SO reputable! Who else would have the guts to inform the world that The Holocaust was a farse?
For anyone a little slow out there, let me very clear to express my implied sarcasm in the paragraph above about the kind of man (I throw that term around loosely here) that I think Ah-MAD is...
While I certainly would love to see Ah-MAD out of the limelight and Mousavi take his place just for the sheer fact that we can actually think about talking to that guy, I don't know about his chances. It will be interesting to see how Ayatollah Khamenei carries through on the "investigation" into the accusation of voter fraud. Will it be real or just a big show? (For those of you who don't know...the real power in Iran is Khamenei and his hand picked Guardian Council. I'm pretty sure his official title of "Supreme Leader" makes that pretty clear.)
The one thing that really pleases me in all this is to see the support of Mousavi's reform movement. Not necessarily for the support of Mousavi "the man"...but for the desire by so many of these people (comprised in large by the young and educated---shocker) for a better relationship with the world. The sporadic violent outbreaks in Tehran at the University certainly are troubling...but that these people in Mousavi's Green Movement understand Ah-Mad's reputation and dialog are leaving them standing alone internationally is promising for the future. We can't communicate with Ah-Mad. We can communicate with these people. Maybe their passion and diligence will have an effect on not only the election of Iran's presidential puppet...but also with the mood and tenor to Khamenei.
